The workforce will soon be seeing some new faces as the College of New Caledonia (CNC) held its 56th Convocation Ceremony.
667 graduates from Prince George, Fort St. James, Mackenzie, Burns Lake and Vanderhoof gathered at CN Centre to cross the stage, marking an important milestone in their educational journey.
Health Care Assistant Program Student Brooke Svendsen explains her time in the program that began in September.
“As you get into it, it turns into biology and labs for bed baths and all those weird little things we do.”
“It kind of ramped up, and then all the sudden by Christmas, it was exams. It wasn’t as stressful as I thought it would was going to be, but it was definitely a program you have to work for.”
Svendsen said she will be going into home care within the Prince George community, helping those who can’t quite live independently.
During the ceremony, CNC Vice President Indigenization, Dr. Jessie King presented the Mary John Award to Medical Radiography Technology Diploma program graduate, Hannah Olinek.
The award recognizes a student who exemplifies the late Elder Mary’s commitment to community service, Indigenous language preservation, and cultural revitalization.
CNC will hold a second Convocation Ceremony for 592 graduates at its North Cariboo Campus in Quesnel on Tuesday.
