Four First Nations Chiefs cut the ribbon to officially open the Ncha Koh Industrial Park yesterday (Friday).
The Stellat’en, Nadleh Whut’en, Saik’uz, and Lheidli T’enneh First Nations partnered to purchase the former Canfor Plateau Sawmill to support local employment and skills development.
Saik’uz Chief Priscilla Mueller said this is a historic achievement, being the first time neighbour nations collaboratively acquire industrial property of this size.
“First Nations led projects like this one fosters pathways for businesses and partners to enhance relationships.”
“This is a strategic acquisition that reflects a unified vision for economic growth, ownership, and long term opportunity.”
Lheidli T’enneh Chief Dolleen Logan is excited to see where this project will go, noting the employment aspect, and already seeing one of their own community members being hired on.
“This is just the start, and I can’t wait to see what the future can bring here and what our four nations can do together.” said Logan. “We’re all family, and we have to look out for family, and it’s for our grandchildren, our great grandchildren. We’re looking at seven generations down the road.”
Both Stellat’en, Nadleh Whut’en Chiefs echoed similar sentiments to the opening of the industrial park.
