Quesnel RCMP investigating fatal hit-and-run incident

Quesnel RCMP is seeking the public’s help with an investigation into a fatal pedestrian hit-and-run in early October.

Corporal Jennifer Cooper, Media Relations with North District RCMP, said the incident occurred shortly before 3 a.m. on October 5th, 2026.

“Police officers were called to Highway 97 south near Yellow Market, for a report of a man sitting on the side of the road. The man was located and transported to the hospital for what appeared to be minor injuries. Unfortunately, the man later died in hospital because of the injuries he sustained.”

Cooper said a thorough investigation followed and it was determined the man was struck by a red 2023 Volvo Tractor Trailer, which has since been located by investigators.

She says the driver of the vehicle has also been identified.

“Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the victim during this distressing time. What police officers are requesting is for any witnesses or anyone with dash camera footage that captured the incident to please come forward and provide their information.”

Cooper says investigators are looking for dash camera footage from anyone travelling in that area between the hours of 2:00 a.m. and 3:00 a.m.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Quesnel RCMP’s non-emergency line at 250-992-9211.
