Halloween is a spooky time, but the Prince George RCMP is giving some reminders to keep trick-or-treating scary for the right reasons.
“This is a busy time of year for celebrations,” said North District RCMP Spokesperson Cpl. Jennifer Cooper. “We want to make sure that everyone in our community has fun, while staying safe!”
For trick-or-treaters:
- Wear a bright costume to heighten visibility.
- Make sure you can walk in your costume without tripping.
- Create a fun necklace with string and glowsticks, wear reflective armbands, or carry flashlights.
- Stay on the sidewalks and make sure you are crossing at the corners.
- Make sure people know your route and carry a cell phone with you in case of emergency.
For drivers:
- Slow down in areas where trick-or-treaters are out.
- Be ready for kids crossing at unexpected places.
- Make sure costumes don’t interfere with being able to see clearly or operate your vehicle.
- Have a backup plan in case you have too much to drink and cannot drive home.
Additionally, RCMP remind anyone planning to have fireworks to check out the City’s bylaws on fireworks.
Anyone with concerns on the misuse of fireworks in their neighbourhood is asked to use the RCMP’s non-emergency line at 250-561-3300, and that 9-1-1 is for emergencies only.
