Beck’s standout play lands him Canada West men’s soccer all-rookie recognition

For a second straight season, a men’s soccer player with the UNBC Timberwolves is among the league’s standout rookies.

Today (Monday), the Canada West Conference announced German defender Luis Beck was named to the all-rookie team for 2026.

Beck appeared in 15 games for the Timberwolves, earning 13 starts and logging 977 minutes on the pitch. While his primary responsibilities came on the defensive side of the ball, the newcomer also demonstrated his ability to contribute going forward, finishing the season with two assists.

Beck arrived in Prince George after playing with 1. FC Saarbrücken in Germany.

His ability to earn a regular role in his first season speaks to his successful adjustment to the pace and demands of Canada West competition.

“It’s exciting to see Luis recognized by the conference with a selection to the All-Rookie Team. Throughout the season, he consistently demonstrated his technical ability and intelligence on the field, showing a maturity and understanding of the game beyond his years,” said head coach Steve Simonson. “This recognition is well deserved and reflects the impact he made in his first season with our program.”

Beck joins Jamie Wildash-Chan (2025), Hagon Kim (2022) and Reid Adams (2019) as Timberwolves who have accomplished this honour.
