Wachtel’s scoring antics extends Spruce Kings win streak to seven

The Prince George Spruce Kings end their two-game homestead undefeated, extending their win streak to seven, after a 7-2 victory over the Surrey Eagles in front of 848 fans.

P.G.’s Nick Bianchi would open the scoring in the first period with a power play goal at 4:29, and would be assisted by Ryan Wachtel and Charlie Spencer, the game’s eventual first and second star.

Spruce Kings would take advantage of an undisciplined Eagles team, putting up two more goals from Dominic Szczygiel (2:27) and Wachtel (4:27), though Surrey’s Loik Leduc would net his team’s first of the night, but Cristian Achim would score Prince George’s fourth of the night to end the second period.

Wachtel would put himself on hat trick watch with another power play goal (1:10) to start the third period, Having the Eagles make a goalie swap, with Spencer giving P.G. another goal (6:36).

Eagles’ Aleksi Tuovinen would nab his team’s second goal (12:42), before Wachtel would complete his hat trick (16:17).

Cody Arnold would stop 35 of 37 shots for the Spruce Kings, with his teammates putting up 46.

Wachtel now has two hat tricks in four games, tying him with West Kelowna Warrior’s Emmanuel Chan for the league’s top goal scorer.

As for Spencer, his five point night would put him as the leagues points leader.

The (12-3) Spruce Kings begin their five-game road trip on Saturday night in Nanaimo against the Costal West division leading (10-5) Clippers at 7:00.
