Bond curious on future Canadian and U.S. relationship following midterm results

The U.S. midterms brought a drastic change to the sitting American government, with the Democrats now holding majority in the House and Senate.

While the change was dominated by blue, Political Analyst Shirley Bond said President Donald Trump still has “the power of the pen” and the veto, but hopes he received the message the American people sent yesterday.

As for what this means for Canada, Bond said it will be interesting to see what will happen between the two country’s relationship.

“Prime Minister [Mark] Carney has signaled that there are more productive conversations going on when it comes to the issue of trade, tariffs, and those negotiations.”

“I think what’s important to remember here is that we need to make sure we are getting the best deal possible for Canada.”

Bond added change was seen across municipal, provincial, and U.S. midterm elections as people are looking for action on core issues such as affordability, healthcare, and public safety, leaving expectations high.
