Salvation Army receives 5th annual Bob Scott Award

The Salvation Army in Prince George is the winner of the 5th Annual Bob Scott Award.

The Bob Scott Award is awarded annually to an individual or individuals, business, organization or agency which exemplifies integrity, leadership and inspiration in contributing to the betterment of the Prince George community and thereby making a difference.

The award was established by D.A.R.T. (Drug Awareness Recovery Team) to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the organization in 2022.

“The Salvation Army is a faith-based organization whose mission is to be a transforming influence in the communities of our world. Here in Prince George, that mission has been lived out for 104 years” said Community ministries director Roy Law. “While the ways we serve have evolved considerably over that time, the heart of what we do has remained the same: to meet people where they are, respond to practical needs with dignity and compassion, and help create opportunities for hope, stability and positive change.”

Law added the Salvation Army serves around 5,000 people each month, providing assistance with foot, clothing, household necessities, emergency needs and other practical supports.

“We work alongside approximately 50 community service providers and support foodbanks in 15 northern communities,” he said. “We know that the greatest impact happens when we work together, share our strengths and support one another.”

D.A.R.T. was developed by Bob Scott, a recovering addict, in 1997 to meet the needs of those in recovery, offer them equal access, healthy personal connections and a sense of control, to fill the gap in the drug and alcohol service industry and to integrate members of the subculture back into the community as full participants.
