Possible 100 kilometre wind gusts prompts wind warning for P.G.

Prince George has been placed under wind warning, as Environment Canada is calling for damaging winds.

According to the weather service, a strong sudden push of wind with gusts ranging from 80-100 kilometres an hour could be coming late this afternoon, first impacting the Lakes District, and will continue towards Stuart-Nechako, Prince George, and the McGregor region throughout the evening, reaching the South Peace district just after midnight.

It said the warning was prompted due to a very strong low pressure system expected to bring a very strong push of wind producing a sudden shift of wind direction and gusts of up to 100 kilometres an hour.

Damage to roofs, fences, branches or soft shelters is possible, with winds easing within a few hours of the strong push occurring.

Environment Canada said to stay away from fallen power lines, be prepared to adapt your driving for changing conditions, prepare for possible disruptions to transportation, services, and utilities.
