The retired investigating lead for ‘Project E-PANA’, the RCMP probe into the Highway of Tears cases, will be returning to the task force.

Staff Sergeant Wayne Clary was in charge of the nearly 11 year old investigation, which was looking into 18 missing and murdered cold cases, for the last four years.

He spoke at the Ramona Wilson Music festival in Smithers on Saturday.

“Once again, this is going to come from the community. This is a tough case. I ask you to bring us the information that we need, so at least, we can bring some kind of closure.”

He retired a two months ago, but was asked to return.

“The officer in charge of major crimes in British Columbia asked me if I would come back and carry on the investigation for the Highway of Tears because of my knowledge and expertise in the area. I’d be more than happy to do that, and I’m going to do that.”

In an interview with MY PG NOW last year, Clary said Project E-PANA team is now made up of 12 officers, down from 70 at it’s height.

Ramona Wilson was found murdered over 22 years ago in Smithers and is one of the Project E-PANA 18. Her sister Brenda is currently walking Highway 16 from Prince Rupert to Prince George to raising awareness and collect stories.
