A 22-8 fourth quarter run propelled the University of Fraser Valley Cascades to a 59-55 come from behind victory over the UNBC Timbelwoves in Canada West women’s basketball on Friday in Abbotsford.
UNBC jumped out to a 27-12 lead after the first quarter and carried a 36-24 lead at half-time.
Maria Mongomo was solid in defeat putting up 18 points and 13 defensive rebounds.
UFV was led by Kayli Sartori who also netted a team-high 18 including an 8 for 19 performance on field goals.
The Timberwolves fell to 1-6 despite dominating the Cascades from three-point range with a 53% effort.
Both teams play again on Saturday.

On the men’s side, the UNBC Timberwolves enjoyed a second half surge outscoring the UFV Cascades 42-31 collecting a 66-63 road victory on Friday.
Point guard James Agyeman broke out offensively for UNBC putting up 22 points including 7 for 18 on field goals.
Vijay Dhillon recorded a team 13 points in the loss for the Cascades.
The Timberwolves went 17 of 24 from the free-throw line while UFV only went 11 for 21.
UNBC improves to 3-4 while the Cascades are now 2-3.
Both teams are back at it on Saturday from Abbotsford.
