The RCMP are reminding drivers to prepare for the winter months.
During the first snowfall almost every year, police find that many vehicles are simply NOT equipped for winter driving.
They say tires with mountain or snowflake symbols on the tire sidewall offer the best traction for ice and snow conditions, and that most highways here in the North require tires with those symbols from October the 1st to March 31st.
They also remind you to check that your windshield wipers are in good condition and to start early at tire shops to avoid long lineups.
