Spruce Kings gut one point on the island against Victoria

It might not have been a win, but the Prince George Spruce Kings found a way to secure another point on the road following a hard-fought 3-3 tie against the Victoria Grizzlies on Saturday.

Jarod Hovde, Brady Bjork, and Patrick Cozzi all potted singles for the Spruce Kings, who blew a 2-1 lead early in the second period and had to score late in the third period to get the game to overtime.

Prince George was outshot 32-28 as Evan DeBrouwer made 29 saves overall.

The Spruce Kings improve their record to 19-10-2-4 and remain a point back of top spot in the Mainland Division as the Langley Rivermen earned a 3-3 tie as well against the Surrey Eagles.

Prince George, unbeaten in its last eight, will have another chance to pull ahead on Sunday against the Cowichan Valley Capitals at 2PM in their final game before the Christmas break.

Earlier in the day, Kyle Johnson and Ethan de Jong captured gold with Team Canada West at the World Junior A Challenge after defeating USA 5-1 in Truro, Nova Scotia.
