Meryeta O’Dine set to compete in 2018 Olympics

Prince George native Meryeta O’Dine has been named to Team Canada’s Olympic snowboarding roster.

The 20-year-old snowboard cross specialist says she’s excited to be able to represent Northern BC.

“We haven’t had a lot of athletes come out and more often than not we’re a little bit underestimated when it comes to the professional side which only kinda fuels the fire beneath you and gets you out there and makes you compete a little bit harder.”

Despite being just 20, O’Dine is no stranger to international competition.

She earned a silver medal in the World Cup Women’s Team Snowboard Cross in December 2017.

“Quite a few of the other athletes have a few years on me,” O’Dine says.

“But compared to everyone else, I think for where I stand right now and my years on the World Cup tour I’m coming in pretty good and I’m confident I’ll be in there with the rest of the top riders.”

O’Dine’s next stop for the World Cup is in Erzurum, Turkey from January 19th to 21st.

Team Canada’s snowboarding team announcement will be made January 25th.

The 2018 Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea will run February 9th – 25th.
