RDFFG gives the green light to 2018 budget

Cost-effective and efficient are the two words the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George (RDFFG) are using to describe their $46 million dollar budget for 2018.

The RDFFG have several projects they’ll be undertaking.

“Foothills Boulevard Regional Landfill entrance re-location is still on the books, the Mackenzie Regional Landfill conversion to a transfer station is also a go, we got funding for that and we also have mounds of equipment that we’re purchasing for volunteer fire departments,” says Art Kaehn, RDFFG Director.

He adds the 2018 version of the budget is fairly similar to last years.

“The budget is around two-hundred thousand less than last year and the taxation is at eighteen-point-eight million, up around three-hundred thousand and the rest of it will come from grants and reserve funds.”

Significant expenditures for this year’s budget include Solid Waste Management, 9-1-1 Emergency Response Services, as well as Recreational and Cultural Services.

The Regional District also renewed their contract with REAPS until 2021.

“We’ve been with REAPS for many, many years since the 90’s and the contract expired – we’ve just renewed it and they are going to provide promotional and educational services,” added Kaehn.

Since 2015, REAPS has delivered over 600 presentations to over 14,000 participants ranging from school classes and community groups.
