DeBrouwer’s struggles continue in Surrey as Eagles beat Spruce Kings 5-1

It’s pretty safe to say Evan DeBrouwer’s least favourite rink in the BCHL is probably the South Surrey Arena.

Once again, the 20-year-old team MVP netminder and the Prince George Spruce Kings fell flat on the Olympic-sized ice surface, dropping a 5-1 decision to the Surrey Eagles on Monday.

The Eagles lead the best-of-seven Mainland Division Final 2-1 with game four set for Tuesday in South Surrey.

After a 1-0 lead after the opening period, the Eagles exploded for three power-play goals from Jackson Ross followed by a pair from Jeffrey Stewart to give the hosts a commanding 4-1 advantage at the end of the middle frame.

John Wesley added one more on a breakaway late in the third.

Ben Brar scored the Spruce Kings only goal on a five-on-three two-man advantage early in the second.

DeBrouwer has given up 14 goals on 117 shots at the South Surrey Arena this season.

Dating back to the regular season, Prince George is winless in five attempts at the Eagles Nest.

Surrey outshot the Spruce Kings 38-31 overall in the contest.

Game Five is set for Thursday at 7PM from the Rolling Mix Concrete Arena (RMCA).
