Timberwolves add local talent to the men’s basketball team

One of the top high school athletes in Prince George will stay in his own backyard.

Colburn Pearce, a standout in both basketball and football, has decided to concentrate on hoops and will play for the UNBC Timberwolves starting in the 2018-19 season.

“I am really excited. Being able to stay home, and go to university in my hometown. Not a lot of cities have that,” said Pearce in a team news release.

Pearce, a guard, will graduate from Duchess Park Secondary next month.

He grew up in the Junior Timberwolves program under the direction of UNBC Head Coach Todd Jordan.

“I think that is what Todd was looking for when he started the Junior Timberwolves. To get kids interested and playing basketball, and getting kids involved with the UNBC teams. I remember them coming out to a lot of practices to help coach.”

Jordan has seen Pearce develop as a player and is confident he is ready for the next level of competition.

“We have had our eye on Colburn since he was in the eighth grade. He will bring athleticism and quickness to our lineup, and I am very excited for him to learn from our veteran guards this season. I have enjoyed watching him grow, and am fully confident he will grow into a strong player at the U-SPORTS level.”

Pearce led Duchess Park to three city basketball championships, and was recognized with three consecutive Zone MVP awards.
