WESTERN HOCKEY LEAGUE:

Swift Current Broncos   1  Everett Silvertips     0

Broncos lead the best-of-seven championship series for the Ed Chynoweth Cup 3-1, with game five Friday in Everett.

Stuart Skinner blocked 32 shots for his fifth shutout of the playoffs.

All games in the series have been decided by one goal.

The WHL champion advances to the Memorial Cup May 18th to 27th in Regina.

ROYAL BANK CUP JUNIOR HOCKEY:

The host Chilliwack Chiefs and the Doyle Cup champion Wenatchee Wild meet Saturday night at the Royal Bank Cup national Junior ‘A’ championship.

The other three teams in the tournament are the Steinbach Pistons (Manitoba Junior Hockey League), Ottawa Junior Senators (Central Canada Hockey League), and Wellington Dukes (Ontario Junior Hockey League).

NHL:

The Winnipeg Jets visit the Nashville Predators tonight (5PM) in game seven of their second round series.

The visiting team has won four of six games in the series.

The winner plays the Vegas Golden Knights in the Western Final.

The NHL Eastern Conference Final will start Friday (5PM) in Tampa between the Lightning and the Washington Capitals.

The Washington-Tampa match-up includes Caps forward Brett Connolly of Prince George against Lightning coach Jon Cooper of Prince George.

The 26-year-old Connolly will be playing against the team that drafted him.

 

WORLD HOCKEY CHAMPIONSHIP: (in Denmark)

Canada is up against Norway today (11:15 a.m.) at the World Hockey Championship in Denmark.

The Canadian team has seven points after three games (a 5-4 shootout loss to the USA; 10-0 win over Korea and a 7-1 victory over Denmark).

Norway is 5th out of eight teams in Group B with three points after three games.

On Saturday, Canada meets Finland (11:15am).

 

MLB:

Toronto Blue Jays  5  Seattle Mariners  2

The two teams play the rubber match of their three game series tonight in Toronto.

The 20-17 Blue Jays are third in the AL East, 5 1/2 games behind the Boston Red Sox and 6 1/2 back of the division leading NY Yankees.

The 20-15 Mariners are  third in the AL West, 1 1/2 games back of the LA Angels and two games behind Houston.

 

NBA: (5th game in the best-of-seven Eastern Conference semi-final)

Boston Celtics  114  Philadelphia 76’ers  112

Celtics win the series 4-1 to advance to the Eastern Final against the Cleveland Cavaliers starting Sunday afternoon at 12:30 (PT) in Boston.

The NBA Western Conference Final will tip off Monday night at 6 with the Golden State Warriors at the Houston Rockets.

Dwane Casey of the Toronto Raptors has been voted NBA Coach of the Year by his peers.

The award is separate from the NBA Coach of the Year award, which is voted on by the media.

Tonight at 8 in Quesnel, the Crossfire will host the RPR Mechanical/J.R. Construction Bandits.

Quesnel will also play in Mackenzie Saturday night at 8 and Sunday morning at 11.

 

PRINCE GEORGE SOCCER:

The Prince George Soccer Association kicks off its new adult season with an Ice Breaker tournament Saturday and Sunday.

This is the first season that the North Cariboo Senior Soccer League and the PG Women’s Soccer Association have amalgamated.
