Residents pleased with proposed Cluculz Lake hill climbing-lane project

Residents living within the Cluculz Lake Hill at Lloyd Drive and East Bay Road are happy with the proposed highway expansion project.

An information session brought more details, and allowed for feedback, about the 1.7 kilometre passing lane and intersection improvements, which will include turning lanes and lighting in the area.

This is a dangerous section of highway because people would need to veer into on-coming traffic to pass trucks climbing up Cluculz Hill, due to the lack of passing lanes.

Corrin , Regional Manager of Business Services for the Ministry of Transportation, says this project was needed.

“Certainly the passing lane is great. It’s going to provide a safe opportunity for travelers to pass large trucks on that hill, but it also an opportunity for us to introduce safety measures in that section.”

“Construction is tendered to go out in the spring of next year with completion in the fall of 2019,” says Peet. “The project budget is $8.7 million and we have federal contribution to that as well, which is coming in at roughly 50 per cent.”

After they collect feedback they expect to have the project finalized at the end of summer 2018.
