ORIGINAL STORY:

Highway 39 is closed in both directions near Mackenzie due to a wildfire in the area.

According to North District RCMP, smoke has been seen near the Lyons Bay entrance and the the closure starts at the Highway 97 junction.

The BC Wildfire Service states the blaze itself is only 30 hectares in size.

Police say the highway will only be open for the water bomber to get through and there are no details on how long the stretch will be closed.

RCMP are asking all commuters, local residents, and the public to stay away from the area and to report all wildfire sightings to the BC Wildfire Service.
