HOCKEY:

The Prince George Cougars have named 53-year-old Mark Lamb as their new general manager.

Lamb spent seven seasons between 2009 and 2016 as the head coach and GM of the Swift Current Broncos, and the six years prior as an assistant with the Dallas Stars.

The Cougars were without a GM since letting Todd Harkins go at the end of the season in March.

The Stanley Cup-champion Washington Capitals are looking for a new head coach.

Barry Trotz tendered his resignation from the team after guiding the Caps to the Cup on June 7th.

The 55-year-old Trotz is a free agent and will be looking for another team that will be willing to pay him more than the reported $1.5 million he earned per season with Washington.

Mike Babcock signed a $50-million, eight-year deal to coach the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2015.

Ten survivors of the Humboldt Broncos bus crash will attend the NHL Awards Night Wednesday in Las Vegas.

Three surviving members will not be able to attend.

The Broncos will be recognized and honoured by the NHL.

The Saskatoon Blades head coach, Mitch Love, has hired Ryan Marsh as an associate coach.

Both the 43-year-old Marsh and the 34-year-old Love are from Quesnel.

Marsh spent the past four seasons as an assistant coach with the Edmonton Oil Kings.

The 33-38 Toronto Blue Jays three-game win streak on the line when they host the Atlanta Braves tonight.

The 42-29 Braves have the best record in the National League and they lead the East by three-and-a-half (3 1/2) games.

 

CFL:

Week two of the CFL season starts Thursday (4:30 PM PT) with 1-0 Saskatchewan at 0-0 Ottawa.

The 1-0 BC Lions are idle until Friday, June 29th when they visit Edmonton.

The 1-0 Eskimos host 0-1 Hamilton this Friday (7PM).

Other action in week two: 0-1 Winnipeg at 0-1 Montreal Friday (4PM) and 1-0 Calgary at 0-1 Toronto Saturday (4PM).
