PRINCE GEORGE COUGARS:

(WHL)

The Prince George Cougars welcome the Tri-City Americans to the CN Centre tonight and Wednesday.

Despite a 6-4 record, the Americans are last in the US Division, although they are just three points out of first.

Tri-City is on an 11-game road trip.

The 5-5-0-1 Cougars, who have won their last three, are third in the BC Division, three points ahead of the 4-10 Kelowna Rockets and four points in front of the 3-6-0-1 Kamloops Blazers.

Prince George is coming off a 3-1 victory over the Swift Current Broncos where Jackson Leppard scored the winner early in the third and added two assists.

The Kelowna Rockets are searching for a head coach after dismissing Jason Smith, who was in his third season behind the team’s bench.

Under Smith, the Rockets went 88-44-10-2 in his first two years on the job, but they started 4-10 this season.

Kelowna will entertain the Swift Current Broncos tonight.

The Rockets are the host team for the 2020 Memorial Cup.

 

PRINCE GEORGE SPRUCE KINGS:

(BCHL)

Prince George Spruce Kings forward Ben Brar is the BCHL Player of the Week with six points in three games.

The 19-year-old Brar scored four goals, including two-game winners, and added two assists in helping his team to a 2-1 record over the weekend.

Brar leads with the Spruce Kings with 16 points in 16 games and is for third in the league with 11 goals.

The 10-5-0-1 Spruce Kings are back on the road this weekend: Friday in Trail, Saturday in Wenatchee and Sunday in Salmon Arm.

Prince George is coming off a 5-3 loss in Coquitlam where the Express scored four unanswered goals in the second period.

The Spruce Kings are third in the Mainland Division, two points behind Coquitlam and five back of the Chilliwack Chiefs.

 

NHL: (Four Monday games)

Alex Ovechkin scored twice and added two assists.

The 5-4 Canucks visit Vegas Wednesday and Arizona Thursday before hosting Pittsburgh Saturday.

Vancouver rookie Elias Pettersson, recovering from a concussion, is expected to be with the team on the road trip.

There are eight Tuesday games in the NHL with four Canadian teams in action.

Calgary plays at Montreal, Ottawa hosts Boston and Edmonton entertains Pittsburgh.

In other action; Florida at NY Rangers, Arizona at Columbus, San Jose at Nashville, Anaheim at Chicago, and Los Angeles at Dallas.

CARIBOO COUGARS:

The Cariboo Cougars will be home this weekend.

The 3-3-2 Major Midget Cougars host the Kootenay Ice Saturday afternoon at 4 and Sunday morning at 10:30 at Kin 1.

 

UNBC TIMBERWOLVES:

(Canada West Women’s Soccer) 

The UNBC Timberwolves will play the 6-5-3 Manitoba Bisons Friday night at UBC to begin the Canada West women’s soccer playoffs.

The winner advances to the quarter-finals on Sunday against the UBC Thunderbirds.

The 3-8-3 Timberwolves won their final two regular-season games to earn the 6th and final spot in the Pacific Division.

Manitoba finished third in the Prairie Division.

Despite a record of 5-4-6, the UNBC men’s soccer team missed the playoffs after a fifth-place finish in the Pacific Division.

The 6-6-3 TRU Wolfpack grabbed the fourth and final post-season berth.

Both the UNBC men’s and women’s basketball teams begin their Canada West regular season on the road this weekend.

The Timberwolves visit the Mount Royal Cougars Friday and Saturday night.

UNBC will have its basketball home openers on November 2nd and 3rd against the Winnipeg Wesmen.

 

JUDO:

The Hart Judo Academy earned two gold, three silver and three bronze for a total of eight medals at a meet in Regina that featured some of the best judo athletes in Western Canada.

The World Series will open tonight (just after 5:00 PT) with the Los Angeles Dodgers at the Boston Red Sox.

Game One pits a pair of seven-time All-Stars against each other in Clayton Kershaw and Red Sox left-hander Chris Sale.

Kershaw pitched the ninth inning (15 pitches) of Game 7 of the NLCS on Saturday night in Milwaukee, while Sale comes into the opener on nine days of rest.
