Timberwolves WSOC outlasted by UBC in quarterfinals

A spirited effort by goalkeeper Brooke Molby wasn’t quite enough for the UNBC Timberwolves women’s soccer to make it a perfect two-for-two weekend.

A 2-0 lead in the first half by Danielle Steer and Amelia Crawford paced the UBC Thunderbirds on Sunday to a 3-1 victory over UNBC in the Canada West Quarterfinals from Thunderbird Stadium in Vancouver.

Both goals came less than three minutes apart forcing the Timberwolves to play catch up.

UNBC was able to cut the deficit to 2-1 in the 55th minute courtesy of a great individual effort by Paige Payne.

Despite getting outshot 18-5 overall, the Timberwolves were able to keep UBC off the scoreboard for 30 minutes before a penalty kick goal from Steer sealed the deal for the T-Birds.

The Timberwolves were not awarded a corner kick in the game while UBC had nine.

The loss was the final university game for fifth-year players Kylie Erb and Madison Emmond.
