Ice Oval opens up shop again after balmy weather

UPDATE:

Dick von Eugen, one of the originators of the oval and helps maintain it, has confirmed the Ice Oval has reopened.

ORIGINAL:

Hopefully, a drop in temperature is enough for the Prince George Ice Oval to return to normal operations today.

The facility has been closed the past few days because of the warmer weather we’ve experienced.

Now the city is under a Fog Advisory right now but Ice Oval Society Member, Lyle Dickeson isn’t overly worried it will impact freezing efforts.

“It’s not something we usually have to deal with here so I don’t really know. I imagine it will put an extra layer of moisture on the ice but once that dissipates, everything should be just fine.”

Monday’s overnight temperature hovered around minus eight degrees, Dickeson hopes this was enough to freeze the surface.

“We’re hoping having it just sit there yesterday would chill it down enough overnight and the temperatures were good and low so we’re hoping to get at again this morning and hopefully be able to do a truck flood and Zamboni it and we’ll be up and running with great ice.”

Dickeson says the upcoming forecast is looking good as the temperature is expected to drop later this week.
