Vice-President Academic at CNC impressed by Students’ Union proposal

The College of New Caledonia is reviewing an intriguing proposal from its Students’ Union following a budget consultation last week.

The union is asking for $50,000 in funding to bring back the Kodiak Athletic programs, upgrade student life experiences as well as peer mentorship programs.

Vice-President Academic Chad Thompson told My PG Now the presentation was pretty impressive.

“I’m really impressed to see the Students’ Union come forward with these requests. At the meeting itself as well as the presenters from the Students’ Union we probably had a couple dozen students in the audience and it’s great to see that kind of passion and engagement to want to improve the student experiences at the college.”

Simply put, Thompson feels the efforts by the Students’ Union needs to be commended.

“One of the other things that stood out was the Students’ Union’s willingness to provide matching funding for the $50,000 they have asked for from those three areas, that again underscores the seriousness of the commitment and I think it’s really great they have taken the lead on these things.”

“Our society is much more health conscious these days and therefore, the student’s desire to support athletics programs is really pleasing because we would really hope that healthier students are going to better students who can better succeed in their students.”

The Kodiak athletic programs at CNC have not been active since the 1980s’.
