Some girls in India will have something new to wear on their feet in a month, thanks to some Prince George students.
The 2nd-year nursing class at the College of New Caledonia is getting ready for their annual trip to a girls orphanage in India.
The class is collecting flip-flops and school supplies to take with them when they fly out at the end of April.
Second-year nursing student, Maria Christie said they are trying to collect 120 pairs.
“Shoes are a big one I think if you ever have to go somewhere without a pair of shoes I think it’s very obvious quite quickly how uncomfortable how it is.”
Christie said having something to wear on feet is something many Canadians often take for granted, but it can have a significant impact.
“I think that it can decrease infection rates because you are not getting as many cute on your feet.”
The group is collecting flip-flops and school supplies until April 20. Drop boxes are set up in CNC Library and Health Sciences Deanery.
