High risk driving campaign aims to curtail bad driving behaviour

High risk drivers are being targeted by a new campaign from ICBC, the BC government and local police.

Failure to yield is the second leading cause of crashes resulting in injury or death in BC, and safety coordinator Diana Pozer spoke about numbers here in the North:

“For our region in the North Central region 550 crashes occur that result in injuries or death as a result of high risk driving. So that is far too many, we really need to reduce that number”

Pozer says this includes speeding, following too closely, ignoring traffic devices, and unsafe lane changing.

Almost 60% of all crashes occur at intersections, and Pozer believes vigilance at intersections – which includes slowing down on a stale green and taking extra time for driving – will help to decrease those numbers.
