Prince George (Team BC East) coached by Ryan Howse and Randy Potskin, placed 2nd at the Anaheim Jr. Ducks Memorial Shootout hockey tournament. The PG team, consisting of 15 players aged 15 and 16, lost 1-0 in the final to the LA Jr. Kings to finish with an overall 3-2 record.

They won the semi-final 3-2 against Totem Totem scoring the winning goal with 2.2 seconds left in the 3rd period. In the round robin, Prince George beat the Summerhawks 7-0, lost 2-1 to the LA Jr. Kings and outscored the California Wave 4-1.

–The Kelowna Rockets are 1-1 at the Memorial Cup in Quebec City after a convincing 7-3 triumph over the QMJHL champion Rimouski Oceanic. Nick Merkley, who just turned 18, scored twice and added an assist for the Rockets as Kelowna tallied three times in each of the first two periods. The Rockets continue round robin play today (4:30) against the 2-0 Oshawa Generals.

–The Northland/Nissan Assault outscored the winless Cowboy Ranch Stylers 12-9 in Prince George Senior Lacrosse. Jon Makowsky led the 2-5 Assault with six goals and two assists. The Stylers slip to 0-7.

–PG Senior Lacrosse resumes Wednesday at 8pm at Kin 1 when the 6-0 Westwood Pub Devils meet the 2-5 Assault.

–The 4th World Baseball Challenge, scheduled for August in Prince George, has been called off due to a lack of committed sponsorship dollars. However, WBC Chair Rick Pattie expects the international tournament to go ahead in the summer of 2016. Pattie says the organizing committee plans to attract six top notch international baseball teams for next year at Citizen Field, including Cuba, the USA, Japan, Bahamas and host Canada.
