School board looks at the long range picture for facilities

A long range plan of what facilities in School District 57 has been released.

Consulting firm Cascades has given its findings on a study done on the 41 buildings the district owns.

The study found that of those buildings, only two are considered to be in excellent condition.

Chair Tony Cable says the report shows they will have to make some tough decisions when it comes to schools that have already been closed.

“Like what do we do with them,” says Cable, “there has been some thought about selling the properties, and trying to recoup some of the funds, though there are some pretty stringent regulations from the ministry on where the money goes.”

Cable says consultations to address these issues will be start later this fall.
