George Street ‘laundromat’ coming down

IMG_2039
Demolition has started on the derelict George Street ‘laundromat’ across from the Prince George Courthouse.

Snaring River Holdings Ltd / Western Thermal Demolition has been contracted by the city to carry out the knock down. Work on the project began on November 26th with the clearing of hazardous material and debris from the inside of the building.

Following the operation, the ground will be filled in and levelled.

This comes after a June 29th 2015 remedial action order from City Council asking for ownership to dismantle the building. With the order so far ignored, the city has now moved in.

The cost of the work, estimated at $72,000, will be recouped by the City via the owner’s property taxes.
