Prince George walks to remember lives of those who died from suicide

The first Soles for Souls Walk left from the Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park this evening (Monday).

The walk is to remember the lives of those who have committed suicide and prevent others from doing so.

“This is especially important because this is part of the grieving process. It’s important that we not only remember people for how they died, which is so typical with suicide; people don’t want to talk about it. It’s so tragic, it’s so heartbreaking. So that person becomes known as that person that took their life when really we should be remembering them for who they were when they were alive and that’s what we’re trying to capture here tonight,” said Sandra Boulianne, Executive Director for the Crisis Centre for Northern BC.

They are hoping to make this an annual event and given the great turnout tonight, Boulianne thinks that will be a possibility.

“It makes me feel really grateful to be a part of this community because it shows that people care,” added Boulianne.
