Spruce Kings run the table during final two road games of 2019

The holiday season will be a little more merry for the Prince George Spruce Kings.

A pair of road victories against the Surrey Eagles (14-17-2-4) and Langley Rivermen is the main reason for that.

On Friday, PG earned a hard-fought 3-2 victory over the Eagles thanks to a two-goal performance from Preston Brodziak.

His second of the game came at 13:24 of the third period on the power-play from Nick Bochen and Fin Williams.

The 20-year-old from Estevan, Saskatchewan also potted one shorthanded for the Spruce Kings.

Christophe Tellier and Hudson Schandor replied for Surrey.

Corey Cunningham opened the scoring for PG in the first period.

Jett Alexander made 28 saves in the victory.

Sunday’s game against Langley turned out to be a bit more back and forth with the Spruce Kings gutting out a 5-4 overtime victory.

Wil Kushniryk who recently returned from the WHL’s Calgary Hitmen lit the lamp in the first period along with Langley’s Devin Leduc for a 1-1 tie after 20 minutes.

In the second, the game opened up with both teams scoring twice each.

Cunningham and Nick Poisson rippled the mesh for PG while Tanner Versluis and Brendan Budy replied for the Rivermen.

Alexander was pulled from the Spruce Kings crease after allowing three goals on 12 shots and was replaced by Carter Woodside.

The clubs continued to trade goals into the third with Brodziak scoring his 14th of the season while Kalen Szeto rifled one past Woodside to make it 4-4 after regulation.

Poisson played the hero 20 seconds into overtime beating Langley goaltender Kristian Lyon who made 27 saves on 32 shots.

PG went 2-for-10 on the power-play.

The Spruce Kings (13-21-2-3) return to Langley (17-17-1-1) after the holiday break on January 3rd.

Prince George remains three back of Surrey and six behind Langley for third and fourth respectively in the Mainland Division.
