Northern Health suggests quitting smoking for New Year’s resolution

Cigarettes and tobacco products have recently risen in popularity, especially vapes and e-cigarettes.

Northern Health advises people to quit smoking at any time of year, but they suggest a fresh start for 2020.

“Upon the holiday season with the new year, and people wanting to become a new version of themselves, we do suggest quitting smoking and going into the new year tobacco-free,” said Lindsay Willoner, Regional Tobacco lead for Northern Health.

Willoner suggested having a plan in place, getting rid of tobacco paraphernalia like lighters and matches, being open with those around you, knowing your cues, getting addiction counseling, and using tobacco cessation services like nicotine replacements.

She explained that vaping is just as addictive as cigarettes, and urges people to consider gearing away from them altogether.
