Back to where it all began.
After much deliberation, West Coast Olefins has decided to bring its 5.6-billion dollar petrochemical plant to Prince George.
The announcement was made tonight (Tuesday) during a Facebook Live announcement hosted by the BC Resources Coalition.
West Coast Olefins CEO Ken James noted they have secured back the original location, which was the BCR Industrial Site.
“At the end of the day, we made the decision to come back into Prince George. We got a lot of feedback to come back when we decided to move the project north,” added James.
In May, the company pulled the project out of the northern capital, moving it near McLeod Lake.
However, during an interview with MyPGNow, in October, James admitted an agreeable site had not been hammered out with the McLeod Lake Indian Band.
James is of the opinion construction can begin late in 2021 or in 2022, creating 1,000 permanent jobs along with several thousand indirect jobs in the region.
The next step for West Coast Olefins is to reach a collective agreement with first nations communities.
The plant was first brought to the attention of PG-area residents in August of 2019.
