The City of Prince George says it’s continuing to invest in local parks through a series of recent playground improvement projects.
In total, the work represents a total investment of $390,000, with funding coming from the Canada Community Building Fund ($232,000) the General Infrastructure Reinvestment Fund ($58,000) and the BC Growing Communities Fund. ($100,000)
Recently completed work includes:
Heather Park:
The Heather Park playground has received several repairs and improvements, including the replacement of the fall protection surface from Engineered Wood Fibre (EWF) to a Pour-in-Place rubber surface. This upgrade creates a new, fully accessible play area. Two additional pieces of play equipment are being added to the playground.
Duchess Park:
The Pour-in-Place rubber fall protection surface has been repaired, improving the condition and safety of the play area.
Stirling Park:
The replacement of the playground’s fall protection surface with EWF (wood chips) and the installation of wooden edging is complete. EWF is generally the preferred option over pea gravel, particularly when safety, accessibility, and CSA compliance are priorities.
Latrobe Park:
Upcoming improvements to the playground’s wooden edging, along with an Engineered Wood Fibre fall protection surface is ongoing and is anticipated to be completed by the first week of November.
In addition, the existing swing set will be replaced due to damage or noted wear with a new double-bay swing set that meets current safety and accessibility requirements. Installation is planned for early summer 2027.
