Man suffers life-threatening injuries following a collision south of PG

Charges are being considered against a 31-year-old former Prince George man following a collision on Highway 97 South involving a stolen vehicle.

On Sunday morning at 8:35, the 100 Mile House RCMP received a request to check the wellbeing of a man who was staying at a local hotel.

Officers attended, however, he had already departed.

A description of the vehicle associated with the person was provided to the police.

At approximately 4:30 PM, a Quesnel RCMP officer observed the vehicle associated with the man from the 100 Mile House check wellbeing request, and attempted to conduct a traffic stop with it.

The vehicle failed to stop and was last seen heading northbound toward Prince George.

Shortly after 5:00 PM, the Prince George RCMP received a report of a single-vehicle collision on Highway 97 near Camp Creek Rd., south of P.G.

While mounties were en route to the collision, the RCMP received a report of a carjacking that had occurred on the north side of Hixon; the suspect had allegedly assaulted the owner of the vehicle before driving away in his car.

Police and other emergency services attended the scene of the collision, where they determined that the vehicle involved was the car that had just been stolen, and the driver was the subject of the 100 Mile House check wellbeing request from that morning.

Witnesses of the crash reported that the vehicle had been driving erratically prior to leaving the roadway and rolling over.

The driver was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

He was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and has since been transferred to Vancouver for medical care.

The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information regarding the carjacking or collision is asked to contact the RCMP at (250) 561-3300.
