PG Cougars:

The Prince George Cougars conclude their 5-day training camp tonight (Monday) at CN Centre with the team’s annual Intra-squad Game for the Rob Charney Cup. Charney was a Manitoba-based scout for the Cougars who passed away from cancer in 2013. Those planning to attend the Intra-squad Game will have to provide proof of vaccination status. The Cougars have pre-season games this week against the Blazers: Friday in Kamloops and Saturday in Prince George.

The UNBC soccer teams will have their home openers Friday and Saturday (Sept 17 and 18) against Trinity Western. Game times are 5:00 PM for the women followed by the men at 7:15 at Masich Place.

Tennis:

Daniil Medvedev of Russia has his first Grand Slam title winning the men’s singles final at the US Open tennis championships. Medvedev beat Novak Djokovic of Serbia in straight sets to deny the 34-year-old Djokovic the Grand Slam in one calendar year.

Emma Raducanu of Great Britain beat Canadian Leylah Fernandez 6-4, 6-3 in the women’s final at the U.S. Open. Both players were unseeded.

 

MLB:

Toronto Blue Jays  22  Baltimore Orioles  7

The Jays have won 11 of their last 12 games and will host A.L. East-leading Tampa Bay tonight. The (80-63) Blue Jays and Boston Red Sox are tied for the two AL Wild Card spots, a game ahead of the Yankees and three in front of Seattle and Oakland. Toronto has 19 games remaining, 7 on the road and 12 at home. The Jays have seven left against Minnesota, six against Tampa, three against the Yankees, and three against Baltimore.

Triple-A Baseball:

Jared Young of Prince George is batting .270 since getting called up to AAA with the Iowa Cubs. The 26-year-old Young has four homers and 15 RBI’s in 27 games. He has been playing at first and third base plus some work in the outfield.

Week 7 of the CFL season starts on Friday with Calgary at Hamilton (4:00 PM PT) followed by Toronto at Saskatchewan (6:45). The Saturday games have B.C. at Montreal (4:00 PM) and Winnipeg at Edmonton (6:45).
