NHL:

Bo Horvat has played his last game as a Vancouver Canuck.

The Canucks traded their captain to the New York Islanders in return for Anthony Beauvillier, Aatu Raty, and a conditional first-round draft pick.

The 27-year-old Horvat is in the final year of a six-year, $33 million deal.

The (20-26-3) Canucks, who are 2-1 under new coach Rick Tocchet, are off this week.

They visit New Jersey on Monday, Feb 6th, the Rangers on the 8th, and the Islanders on the 9th.

Hockey legend Bobby Hull has died at the age of 84.

The “Golden Jet” was a two-time NHL MVP who helped the Chicago Blackhawks win the 1961 Stanley Cup.

Hull left the Blackhawks in 1972 and signed with the Winnipeg Jets of the WHA.

It was hockey’s first $1 million contract.

WHL:

The (19-21-4) Prince George Cougars continue a 5-game homestand Friday and Saturday against the Victoria Royals.

Prince George is tied with Vancouver for 2nd in the B.C. Division and 6th in the Western Conference, five points behind Everett and nine back of 4th place Tri-City.

The Cougars are nine points ahead of the Royals, who are tied with the Kelowna Rockets for the last playoff spot.

Forward Scott Cousins of Prince George has rejoined the Kelowna Rockets.

The just-turned-19-year-old Cousins has two goals and five assists in 24 games this season with the Prince George Spruce Kings.

Prior to that, he played in 52 games with the Rockets over three seasons.

BCHL:

The Prince George Spruce Kings hit the road later this week for three games in as many days.

The (20-14-2-1) Spruce Kings will play at Cranbrook Friday, Trail Saturday, and Salmon Arm on Sunday.

Their next home games will be Feb 10th and 11th against Merritt.

Canada West Basketball:

The UNBC Timberwolves host the Thompson Wolfpack Friday night at 5:00 and 7:00 and Saturday at 4:00 and 6:00 in Canada West basketball.

The Timberwolves complete their regular season on Feb 10th and 11th at Brandon.

UNBC is 6-10 and in 12th place out of 17 teams in both the men’s and women’s divisions with just four games left.

The top 12 qualify for the playoffs starting Feb 17th.

The (23-29) Raptors, who are 2-2 on a 7-game road trip, visit the Utah Jazz Wednesday night at 6:00 (PT).

The Philadelphia Eagles are slight favorites (by less than a field goal) to win the Super Bowl over the Kansas City Chiefs.

BC Elite Hockey League: (BCEHL)

(U18 male)  

The (11-14-1) Under-18 Cariboo Cougars host the (14-9-3-2) Vancouver North East Chiefs Friday Friday morning at 11:30 and Saturday morning at 9:00 at Kin 1.

Cariboo is 7th and Vancouver NE is 4th in the 9-team division.

(U18 female)  

The (9-16-3) Under-18 female Northern Capitals visit the (3-23-2) Greater Vancouver Comets Saturday afternoon at 3:30 and Sunday morning at 10:30 in Burnaby.

The Caps are 4th and the Comets last in the 5-team division.
