Cougars’ Heidt and Parascak named WHL players of the month

The Prince George Cougars were dominant in December and two of their forwards have been recognized with Player of the Month awards.

Riley Heidt, a Minnesota Wild draft pick, put up an eye-watering 7 goals and 17 assists for 24 points in just 11 games in the month.

He recorded multiple points in seven of those games, including five assists on December 15th in Wenatchee and a four-point game against Tri-City at the very start of the month.

Now sitting at an even two-points per-game average, 68 points in 34 games, Heidt leads the entire CHL in scoring.

Not to be outdone, the Super Rookie Terik Parascak earned his second Rookie of the Month award in December, winning it in the September/October month as well.

The 17-year-old scored 4 goals and 12 assists for 16 points in the team’s 11 December games, he was also +13.

He has 54 points in 36 games – the next highest rookie in the WHL is 18 points behind him.

Parascak had points in nine of eleven games played, including an eight game point streak and the Cougars’ Teddy Bear Toss goal.

He is NHL draft eligible this offseason.

These totals come in a month without LA Kings third round pick Koehn Ziemmer who was injured long-term in November.

The Cougars were also missing forwards Carlin Dezainde (injured) and Ondrej Becher (World Juniors), as well as defenseman Viliam Kmec (World Juniors) for portions of the month.

The team earned an 8-3-0-0 record in December and sit on top of the Western Conference standings, 26-10-0-0 with 52 points, three ahead of Wenatchee (23-12-3-0) with two games in hand.

The Cougars play in Wenatchee tonight at 6:00, their second game of a five game road trip.
