PG under another snowfall warning

Another large dump of snow is on the way for the Prince George-area.

Environment Canada has issued a Snowfall Warning for the city as well as McGregor.

A Pacific frontal system combined with lingering cold air will bring snow today and tonight. Total snowfall accumulation of 10 to 15 cm is expected by Saturday morning before the snow eases.

Meteorologist, Lisa Erven told MyPGNow.com for those looking to head south to Wells, Kamloops or the Okanagan – you might want to delay those travel plans.

“The further south you go, we are seeing some mixed precipitation where things like ice pellets and freezing rain are entering the forecast for tonight and into Saturday. For anyone who is travelling further south, we could see additional road hazards.”

As to why our area is seeing its third dump of snow in just under two weeks, Erven mentioned the main reason is due to a very active weather system.

“So, instead of having a ridge of high pressure which might deflect weather systems into the Yukon or down into the United States, we have instead gotten a broad trough of low pressure across the Pacific swinging all these pulses of weather towards BC.”

Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow.
