Local candidate’s election signs vanish

The Liberal candidate in the Prince George – Peace River says someone north of the Nechako River is stealing his election signs.

Matt Shaw says last week he noticed 40 signs missing from the roadsides and intersections along the Hart Highway, Foothills, North Nechako Road and Chief Lake Road area.

“I replaced them with 30 signs that I had, went up there yesterday and those were gone too. So that’s 70 signs gone in a very short period of time, and they are not vandalized. They’re gone.”

He says the signs cost him about 6 dollars a piece, but the money isn’t the issue.

“It’s hard to get signs this time of year, so it’s going to be very hard to re order the signs, wait for them and have them up before the end of the election.”

“The signs are a way of people putting me on their radar, and if they go missing two times in a row, that’s a hit to my campaign.”

Shaw says Conservative election signs appear to have been left alone. He’s not sure what to do besides file a police report.

“I’m not going to cry about it, there’s really not much I can do about it, but nevertheless I’m not super happy about it. I hope that maybe by some miracle, somebody might come across these signs in a dump somewhere. I’d really like to get them back if I could.”
