It was community that stole the show during last night’s (Wednesday) Nelly’s Pub Fundraiser.
The open mic fundraiser at Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park was put on to support the employees of Nelly’s Pub, after yesterday’s fire at Northwood Plaza.
Organizer Aaron Trenholm said owners Stewart (Stu) and Sheryl Malgunas were taken aback by the support.
“Sheryl couldn’t even get up on stage, but when I had a talk with her she was in tears from the love and support, and when Stu got up on stage you could just see and feel it, especially when he said ‘we’re going to rebuild’.”
“To feel that coming from him, it was absolutely powerful and made it all worth it.”
Trenholm said for everything to come together so quickly was a miracle, from City Councillor Kyle Sampson helping him book the park, to organizations donating gear and food, to the love and support of the community.
Around 25 acts came out to perform, with over 100 community members showing up to support the fundraiser.
The fundraiser brought in $6,676 in donations.
