Miracle Theatre announced its 12th production, Hilda’s Yard, set to hit the stage in the spring.
The play, by Canadian playwright Norm Foster, is a comedy about recent empty-nesters Hilda and Sam who’s 30 year old children quickly returned to live back at home, but are followed by an overly friendly female trombone player, and a mysterious, but charming fellow of dubious character.
The performance is also a fundraiser, already raising over $33,000, with Director Ted Price saying the start is encouraging.
“It’s kind of a real boost for our team of volunteers too. Now we want to go a lot further, but at least we’re off to a start, so that’s very encouraging.”
This year’s proceeds will be donated to the Mavrik Turnbull Legacy Fund, which is a permanent endowment under the Prince George Community Foundation.
Mavrik’s father Derek Turnbull said this came together with the help of the community foundation and Executive Director Rae-Anne Noonan.
“I’m very excited to be part of it with them, and go through all of this with them.” said Turnbull. “Mavrik built one heck of a legacy in such a short amount of time, so it’s my responsibility now to keep it going so, being able to do this with them is unreal.”
Annual distributions will be granted to the Spirit of the North Foundation to support programs providing assistance to pediatric oncology families and/or address medical needs for children in the Prince George region.
Money will be raised through ticket sales, sponsorships, donations, and concession, with the goal this year to surpass $188,000.
The play will hit the stage March 17th to April 11th, Tuesday through Saturdays in the evening, plus matinees on Sunday at ArtSpace.
Tickets are $40 and can be purchased at Books and Company or ordered by phone at 250-563-6637.
