School District 57 submitted its five-year capital plan, requestion provincial funds for two of its schools.
The School District is looking to get as much as $142,245,344 for additions and renovations, which is dependent on which funding D.P. Todd Secondary School would be accepted.
While D.P. Todd would be getting the majority of the funding ask, Superintendent Jameel Aziz said the school is still in good shape.
“It’s well repaired, it’s kept up to the standard we would expect for any school, but when it was built, as everyone knows, there are no windows in that school, and so we have multiple classrooms that don’t have any natural light, both for staff and for students, and I think it’s become an ongoing challenge.”
D.P. Todd will have two alternatives presented, either addition and renovations to increase capacity from 600 to 900, costing $90,276,090, or replacement to increase capacity to 900 students costing $131,500,732.
Springwood Elementary is looking to add four Classrooms Daycare Multipurpose room, which would total $10,744,602.
Aziz said they expect to hear back from the Province before the end of the calendar year.
Other items discussed during the meeting include the Strategic Plan, and the updated meeting calendar and 2028-29 school calendar.
