Rogers Outage: How a single severed cable left Northern B.C. without internet

A severed fibre optic cable led to a massive Rogers internet outage across most of Northern and Central B.C. including Prince George and the Cariboo on Tuesday.

According to the telecommunications company, the widespread service drop was reportedly caused by third-party construction crews working in the region.

Service drops widely impacted residential and business subscribers across Prince George, Fort St. John, Dawson Creek, Quesnel, 100 Mile House among other communities.

While major areas are coming back online, customer support teams have advised some residents in hard-hit or rural zones that full stabilization and local line splicing could take anywhere from 24 to 48 hours to completely resolve.

Rogers technicians are working overnight to continue repairs with a further update expected this morning (Wednesday).
