Electric atmosphere expected as P.G. Cougars prepare to salute local first responders

The Prince George Cougars are preparing to host one of their most popular feature weekends of the season at CN Centre.

Starting tomorrow night (Friday), the team kicks off its annual Community Heroes Weekend as they take on the Tri-City Americans, honouring local first responders, healthcare workers, and non-profit organizations.

Director of Business, Taylor Dakers told MyPGNow.com it should be an action-packed two nights.

“We will highlight them pre-game in a ceremony. We’ll have some vehicles and stuff outside of the building on the way in. Full building, electric kind of environment, everybody kind of celebrating and showing their support for these groups.”

“A number of local businesses and individuals that donated money for tickets to go towards those Community Hero families as well. It’s grown over the years to, to just be something to look forward to as an entire weekend.”

In addition, the weekend will also feature the club’s first Mega 50-thousand-dollar guaranteed 50/50 jackpot of the year.

Dakers added the WHL club enjoy putting on the jackpots as much as the person winning it.

“The amounts that get won, you know, range between 50 grand and we gave away 102 grand two years ago as a prize. And, you know, that’s super rewarding on our side, but just another layer to the, the exciting entertainment aspect of being physically in the venue.”

“Having 4500 plus, 5000 plus in the building, watching a jackpot get up to 100 grand, 150 grand. You know, that’s another layer to an exciting event. So, we love to do it, we love to put it on, and we love to see those winners.”

Funds raised from the initiative will directly benefit local charities, including the Prince George Firefighters Charitable Society.

Puck drop for Friday is 7pm while Saturday’s festivities get underway at 6pm.
