Devils put Doig, Bandits on ice in Game Three

If the Westwood Pub Devils were going to go down, it wasn’t going to be without a fight.

Pierce Watson and Monty Jones scored seven goals to give the Devils an 11-7 victory in Game Three Tuesday night, and a chance in the Prince George Senior Lacrosse Championship against the RPR Mechanical/BX Pub Bandits.

The Devils made life miserable for playoff-leading scorer Drew Doig, who was physically manhandled every time he touched the ball during the contest.

“He is one of the key players for the Bandits, he is one of the leading goal scorers and is a very good player and being able to shut him down helps him out a lot,” said Watson after the game.

The Bandits were once again without star forward Cole Paciejewski, who is still battling wildfires with his brother Brock.

Devils forward Spencer Ovenden says it’s paramount to get these wins when he’s out of the lineup.

“I think we always expect Cole to be there because you never know and obviously it is a bonus when he is not. It’s important to win in the finals regardless because that is something you have to do.”

Jamie Bellamy picked up the win in net for the Devils, while Jonathan Witmeier took the loss.

The win cuts the Bandits lead in the best-of-five series in half at 2-1 with Game Four set for Thursday night at Kin 1.
