PRINCE GEORGE COUGARS:

Saskatoon Blades             4    Prince George Cougars   3   (SO)

Max Gerlach of Saskatoon scored a power-play goal with 40 seconds left in the third and the Blades would go on to win in the sixth round of the shootout.

Ryan Schoettler gave PG a 3-2 lead with a power play goal with 5:55 remaining in regulation.

Joel Lakusta and Ilijah Colina also tallied for the Cougars, who have fallen 11 points out of a playoff spot.

Isaiah DiLaura made 35 saves in the PG net as the Cats outshot the Blades 39-38.

The 18-24-4-4 Cougars continue their six-game Prairie road trip Tuesday in Swift Current.

They also play Wednesday in Regina, Friday in Brandon and Saturday in Moose Jaw.

Next home games for the Cougars will be against Kamloops February 9th and 10th.

Ex-Cougar Kody McDonald opened the scoring with a shorthanded goal and added two assists.

McDonald completed the Gordie Howe hat-trick with a fight against Cameron MacPhee.

The 24-15-4-4 Spruce Kings, who play this afternoon in Chilliwack, have taken over sole possession of first place in the Mainland Division, by a point over Surrey, two over Langley, and by seven over Chilliwack.

SNOWBOARDCROSS:

Meryeta O’Dine of Prince George finished 10th out of 28 at the Bansko Sprint Snowboardcross World Cup race in Bulgaria.

The 20-year-old was second among the five Canadians.

The Snowboardcross team will now compete in one last World Cup in Feldberg, Germany from February 2-4 before heading off to South Korea to compete in February’s PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympic Games.

 

NBA:

The 35-15 Celtics lead the Eastern Conference by one-and-a-half game over Toronto.

The 32-15 Raptors host the Los Angeles Lakers today.

The 40-10 Warriors lead the Western Conference by four-and-a-half games over Houston.
