By Josh, the Broncos blank the struggling Cougars

Defenceman Josh Anderson is not known for scoring goals, but he found the back of the net on the power-play in helping the Swift Current Broncos to a 4-0 skunking of the Prince George Cougars.

It was Anderson’s first goal in 10 games in a Swift Current uniform.

He was named the game’s second star behind defenceman Colby Sissons, who had three assists.

The 19-year-old Anderson was dealt to the Broncos by the Cougars on January 7th for a first-round pick in both the 2018 and 2019 WHL Bantam Drafts.

Anderson, a third-round NHL draft pick (71st overall) of the Colorado Avalanche in 2017, only had seven goals in 177 games over three-and-a-half seasons with Prince George.

Swift Current finished two-for-seven (2/7) on the power-play and they had another goal that came one second after a man advantage ended.

Prince George was zero-for-five (0/5).

17-year-old rookie Joel Hofer of Winnipeg made 30 saves, 20 of them in the third period, for his first WHL shutout in his 14th appearance.

Hofer is 6-2-0-1 with a 2.61 GAA and a 0.917 save percentage.

Tavin Grant stopped 36 of 40 shots.

Swift Current enjoyed period leads of 1-0 and 2-0 to push its home winning streak to six games.

Tuesday was the fourth time the Cougars have been shutout this season.

“They took it to us in the first 10 minutes. They were quicker; they were faster; we didn’t know what to expect. When you see the records and the players, you know they built their team to be a championship team. We were
taken a little back off the start,” said Cougars Associate Head Coach Steve O’Rourke on 94.3 the GOAT‘s post-game show.

“It’s a learning lesson. It’s a measuring stick for these guys,” added O’Rourke.
