PRINCE GEORGE SPRUCE KINGS:

Despite the loss, the Spruce Kings clinched their Division for the first time since joining the BCHL in 1996.

Prince George secured top spot in the Mainland after Chilliwack lost 5-2 against Merritt.

The (30-16-4-4) Spruce Kings still have four regular season road games left, including tonight against the last place Express in Coquitlam.

Prince George, 54 games = 30-16-4-4 (68 points)

PRINCE GEORGE COUGARS:

The Prince George Cougars start a four game road trip tonight against the (26-28-1-3) Kamloops Blazers.

Kamloops leads the season series 5-2, having won the last four.

The Blazers, who fell 2-1 Friday to Kelowna, have lost three straight games this week after winning twice last weekend in Prince George.

The Cougars also play at Kelowna on Tuesday, Spokane on Friday and Tri-City Saturday (the 24th), before returning home to battle the Rockets on February 27th and 28th.

The (19-30-4-4) Cougars have lost four in a row and 11 of their last 13.

CARIBOO COUGARS:

The Cariboo Cougars play the third place  (21-9-1-1) Fraser Valley Thunderbirds in Abbotsford tonight at 6 and Sunday afternoon at 12:30.

The (25-6-3-0) Major Midget Cougars are tied for first place with the (25-4-2-1) Valley West Hawks, although the Hawks have two games in hand.

Cariboo has six regular season games left (all on the road) while Valley West has eight to play.

Golden Bears lead 1-0 with game two this afternoon at 1 (Pacific) in Edmonton.

A third game, if needed, would be played Sunday (1PM Pacific).

 

OLYMPICS:

Update 7AM

Canada has 15 medals (5 gold, 5 silver and 5 bronze) after winning gold and bronze Saturday in short-track speed skating at the PyeongChang, South Korea 2018 Olympic Winter Games.

The Canadian men’s Olympic hockey team lost 3-2 in a shootout to the Czech Republic.

The 3-0 Canadian women’s Olympic hockey team will play in the semi-finals on Monday.

Kevin Koe of Canada is 4-1 in Olympic men’s curling after suffering his first loss, 5-2 against Sweden.

10-time Canadian figure skating champion Patrick Chan, in his final Olympics, finished ninth.

Sarah Beaudry of Prince George finished 29th out of 87 athletes in the women’s Biathlon 15-kilometre individual race on Thursday (Feb 15th).

It was the first Olympic competition for the 23-year-old Duchess Park grad, who replaced Megan Tandy of PG, who has been under the weather with a fever.

The 29-year-old Tandy was 57th out of 87 in the 7.5-kilometre Sprint on Saturday, Feb 10th.

The Women’s 4x6km Biathlon Relay will take place on Thursday.

Jamie Macdonald of Fort. St. James will participate in the women’s short-track speedskating 3000m relay on Tuesday.

The 23-year-old crashed in women’s 500 metres preliminary race on Saturday, Feb. 10th.

A minor concussion suffered in training prevented Meryeta O’Dine of Prince George from competing in the women’s snowboard cross.
